I had the happen to me and it was the fucking battery - the 3 volt one cr2032 or sich
the battery being dead is not supposed to matter - but sometimes it does - check that
I saved a dead laptop that did nothing on boot with a dollar store cr2032

Ummmmā¦ I guess youāre not the only simpleton. Just checked my desktop and lo and beholdā¦ Iāve been running on a single processor for 4 years now.
Iāll also let everyone know how a 2nd processor helps out.

You should restart after that change for it to work if it does
there is some question
also the turning on of the dual core was in my bios not in msconfig
it was on a Leveno - my dell does not have that option
so restart after the change - some say it only helps the boot processā
need more solid info then someone on ehow
just sayin
I donāt think the msconfig does a thing - you need to look in setup on boot -F2 or whatever to see if a parm exists there
If you want to know how many cores are used
download process hacker
click on system information
check show graph for each processor on bottom left
then you will know one way or the other
Iāll check to see if thereās a parm in boot setup and also run some diagnosis to make sure both cores are chugging. I did restart after making the msconfig change and the setting held anyhow. The system does seem to be running much fasterā¦ but that could just be me tripping expecting it to. I should have run some before and after diags, but we shall see.
Are you guys sure itās only using one before you change that? I just enabled all 4 of mine and canāt tell any difference.

No, I should have checked first, but Iām definitely not tripping, I am seeing notable improvement.

Msconfig only helps for faster boots
it is there for debugging so you can have less cores on boot
